ROBERT REID

Jazz Piano

Robert Reid DuoPianist Robert Reid originally studied classical piano but at Oxford University switched to jazz after hearing records by the great pianists Fats Waller, Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson. Inspired by their rhythmic and improvising  brilliance , Robert was tempted to follow a musical career.

However, and despite the urgings of his early friend, a certain Tim Rice ( Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita etc), he decided to play safe and  became a lawyer, playing jazz piano as a semi- pro in the evenings.

Robert worked with his Duo or Trio (piano, double bass / drums) for many years, performing regularly in London and the South East at various jazz venues and private and corporate events.

Robert and other members of his duo/trio have, played with, (or on the same bill as), many well-known jazz  musicians including Humphrey Lyttleton, Scott Hamilton, Harry Connick Jnr, Jacqui Dankworth, Acker Bilk, Jamie Cullum, Lianne Carroll , Derek Nash and jazz guitarist John Etheridge.

Their repertoire includes interpretations of classic compositions from the Great American Songbook plus Latin, gospel, jazz/funk, and the blues.
